Hatchet 3 (2013) analysis

Hatchet 3: Hatchet 3 Horror Film is the third installment of the Hatchet film series. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his violent murderous rampage. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.

The film's main strength is the use of real-world special effects. Unlike many modern horror movies which heavily rely on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly practical makeup effect and sets--resulting in some truly horrific moments throughout the film.

The cast delivers a strong performance with Kane Hodder being the most intimidating villain. It's like an '80s slasher movie, with the dialogue being a bit too tongue-in-cheek and campy. There are instances of humor in the movie which add humour to the bloody action.

However, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) many of the locations are re-used from previous films in the series. The identical boat house was used twice in the film and a lot of the film appears to be a re-use from previous films in the series. If you've seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this could make the movie appear familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 (click now to read clips) was a excellent series. There was many gory moments, and there were some great performances from the cast.
